Panhou Retreat recently celebrated a significant milestone in its 20-year journey of establishment and growth in Hoang Su Phi, Ha Giang. With a mission centered on sustainable tourism development, the retreat stands out not only for its breathtaking natural beauty but also for its dedication to preserving and promoting local cultural values.
The importance of sustainable tourism:
Panhou Retreat was founded in 2004 by the French-Vietnamese couple, Mr. Michel Galey and Mrs. Lan Phuong. They fell in love with the breathtaking natural scenery and the unique cultural identity of the Dao ethnic people in Thong Nguyen, Hoang Su Phi. Our resort stands out with architecture that utilizes natural materials such as bamboo, rattan, and recycled wood, while also focusing on preserving the environment and the local ecosystem.
The "3R" philosophy (Recycle - Reuse - Reduce) serves as a guiding principle in Panhou's daily operations, from reusing recycled wooden items to minimizing the use of single-use plastic products.
βIn the trend of developing a tourism product, in addition to the narrative of preserving and protecting nature, the story of creating experiences tied to local culture, drawing inspiration from local traditions to infuse spirit into tourism products, is also an essential factor. Furthermore, we aim to share the benefits of our business fairly with local people by creating job opportunities alongside local economic development, forming a sustainable tripod of growth among culture, nature, and the local community. This is the guiding principle that Panhou pursues.β
Local cultural experiences at Panhou Retreat.
Visitors to Panhou Retreat not only get to admire the natural scenery but also have the opportunity to experience the unique cultural aspects of the Dao people.
A notable highlight is the museum showcasing traditional clothing and artifacts of the local people, which helps visitors gain a deeper understanding of the history and culture of the region. Additionally, wellness activities such as herbal baths are among the valuable experiences to enjoy during your stay here.
Contributing to the local community.
Panhou Retreat is not just a resort; it also actively contributes to the local community. Over 90% of Panhou's staff are locals who have been trained in tourism skills, language, and culture. This not only creates job opportunities for the local people but also helps develop the economy and preserve cultural heritage.
On this occasion, Panhou Retreat also presents a special gift to the land and people of Ha Giang as a heartfelt expression of gratitude by officially establishing the βPanhou sustainable development fund.β With an initial budget of 200 million VND, the fund aims to achieve four objectives:
Supporting local economic development
Providing vocational training for local residents
Planting trees for forest protection
Supporting waste collection projects within sustainable development initiatives
Notably, the fund will continue to be developed through a portion of the revenue from each guest.
Over the past 20 years, Panhou Retreat has established its position in the sustainable tourism sector in Vietnam. Notably, the resort has been nominated for the βTop Sustainable Resort in Asia 2024β by the World Travel Awards.
This recognition is a testament to Panhou's efforts and long-term commitment to preserving and promoting the local cultural and natural values.
Panhou Retreat is not only an ideal destination for nature lovers but also a place for visitors to experience and gain a deeper understanding of the Dao ethnic culture in Hoang Su Phi. With a commitment to sustainable development, Panhou Retreat has played a significant role in protecting the environment and preserving the local cultural identity.
